SALEM, Ore. – Corban University Athletics announced on Friday, December 22nd, that they are officially raising funds towards a new state-of-the-art athletic complex on campus.
“I am excited to announce Corban University is raising funds to construct a new athletic complex to meet the growing needs of our highly successful Warrior athletic teams and our intramural programs,” said Corban Director of Athletics Greg Eide.
“The new complex will house a state-of-the-art track & field complex, an all-weather turf soccer field, an all-weather turf softball field, and an all-weather turf intramural/practice field. In addition, the entire complex will have lights, which will provide our teams the ability to practice in the evenings and will create more flexibility for class scheduling.”
For the past 11 years—since the start of the program—Corban’s track & field teams have produced numerous individual conference champions and All-Americans, all without having a track to train on. A track on campus will save athletes valuable travel time and expenses, provide a location to host other universities, and attract additional student-athletes to the program.
But track athletes aren’t the only students benefiting from the new complex. Corban’s soccer and softball teams, both national competitors, are currently unable to use their grass fields for most of the year due to poor drainage.
Now, for the first time, Corban’s soccer and softball teams will be able to compete on their home turf, instead of competing with the weather.
“A $6 million dollar two-phase project like this is not possible without a significant number of partners willing to invest in the lives of our students,” said Eide. “We look forward to seeing how the community steps up to join us in this vision.”
And indeed, lead gifts totaling $1.3 million have already been raised toward the project.
