Reach

Through the Reach program, students put their faith to work in community service projects focusing on hunger and housing, education and literacy, justice and dignity, or creation care. Work with organizations such as Union Gospel Mission, Habitat for Humanity, SMART, Oregon Right to Life, and Turtle Ridge Wildlife Center.

A graduation requirement for all traditional undergraduates, Reach highlights Corban’s long-standing commitment to service. It contributes to the mission of Corban University “to educate Christians who will make a difference in the world for Jesus Christ” by facilitating a wide variety of service opportunities in local and global contexts. Through Reach, students serve in churches or other non-profit organizations, often focusing on one of five key areas:

  • Education/Literacy
  • Hunger/Housing
  • Dignity/Justice
  • Creation Care
  • Mentoring/Coaching

Reach assists students in integrating their faith and service with their learning.

Finding a “Home” Church

Connecting to a local community of faith in the Salem area can be an oh-so-challenging proposition! It’s a bit scary to walk in to a new church, filled with unfamiliar faces. And sleeping in on Sunday morning feels so much… safer, so much more comfortable. But finding a church to call home is a crucial part of making your faith your own. And there is no better time than right now, to take that step. Serving in a local church is a great way to fulfill your Reach requirements AND get to know a church community!

Connecting in our Community

Community service projects are a great way to fulfill your Reach requirements. But how do you find an organization to work with? The Reach Office has information on several local non-profit organizations who are eager to have you serve with them. They are prepared to provide you with training, meaningful work, supervision, and feedback on your service.
