About Dr. Thomas
Dr. Thomas started teaching at Corban University in 2020 after serving for nine years as Assistant Professor of Computer Science at Bethel University in St. Paul, Minnesota. There, she played a key role in starting the Mathematics and Data Science program.
Her research interest is primarily in data mining. Some of her past projects include analyzing student success and retention at Bethel University and here at Corban University and evaluating the health of pastors in the Midwest. Before that, she taught at Eastern Oregon University in the Department of Computer Science and Multimedia.
Dr. Thomas’s interests include watching Notre Dame football, sewing, doing jigsaw puzzles, and enjoying the outdoors.
Recently Taught Courses
Discover how to turn raw data into insight. This course introduces key techniques like decision trees, clustering, and regression, with hands-on practice using Python and Java to uncover patterns and trends in large datasets.
Step into the world of machine learning and game theory. Learn how computers solve problems and make decisions using algorithms like minimax and alpha-beta pruning. Build smart systems that think, play, and adapt.
Build the backbone of computer programming knowledge. Learn how to organize, manipulate, and analyze data using common structures like stacks, queues, trees, and graphs. Master algorithm design, recursion, and performance optimization.
Explore the fundamentals of computer science. From algorithms to hardware to the social impact of computing, you’ll gain a broad understanding of how computers work and what they can do—no prior experience needed.
My vision for the program at Corban is to develop Christian programmers who can work in areas of technology, through developing their critical thinking abilities and programming skills. Just as it is important to have Christians in fields like nursing and teaching, it is equally important to have programmers and developers who are Christians being a light in corporate settings.
