Corban University Reimagines Student Life to Foster Growth and Engagement
Corban University is stepping into a new season of student life with fresh leadership and renewed energy, designed to create more opportunities for engagement across campus. President John Mark Yeats shared his excitement for the transition: “This is an opportunity for us as an institution to embrace the incredible team God has already given us. It became clear to us that He has been shaping our future through individuals already here. That makes me incredibly excited about what’s ahead.”
At the heart of this restructuring, Dr. Mechelle Garrett has expanded her role as Vice President of Community Belonging and Student Success, continuing her focus on student well-being. Joining her leadership team are Tanni Swisher, newly appointed Dean of Students, and Jason Smarr, who will serve as Director of Student Life and Spiritual Formation. “I’m excited to help rejuvenate the student experience,” Smarr said. “My desire is to have consistent programming and discipleship opportunities each week that promote a sense of belonging for our students. From our faculty, to our staff, to our students, so many on this campus desire to do life in Christ together.”
For Swisher, her unique care for student growth sits at the heart of her enthusiasm for this restructuring. “I am passionate about advocating for Corban’s student body to help them navigate academic, behavioral, personal, and spiritual challenges,” she said. “I want our students to experience the inescapable love of God and to continue building a community that fosters empathy, understanding, and a sense of belonging for all.”
Looking at the big picture, Dr. Yeats emphasized the purpose behind these changes and the opportunities they create for the entire campus community: “These changes are about giving students more opportunities to connect with each other and with Corban’s mission,” he said. “I’m excited to see how these leaders will help our community grow.”
