About Dr. Rainwater
Jake Rainwater grew up on the Alabama Gulf Coast and attended the University of Mobile in Mobile, Alabama. After graduating with a B.S. in Theology, he and his wife moved to Kansas City, Missouri, to study at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, where he earned his M.Div. and Ph.D. His doctoral research explored the doctrines of God’s attributes, the Trinity, and salvation. While at Midwestern, he served full time on staff in the Registrar’s Office and taught as an adjunct professor, facilitating courses in theology, ethics, and philosophy of religion at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Across his years in Alabama, Missouri, and Oregon, he has served churches in a range of staff and lay roles, including youth minister, pastoral residency director, preaching team member, worship band member, small group leader, and baby-holder in the nursery.
In 2025, Dr. Rainwater came to Corban University as Chief of Staff and Assistant Professor of Theology. He now serves as full-time faculty and department chair in the School of Ministry.
Jake is married to his high school sweetheart, Tabitha, and they have two kids who can always be found disrupting campus. Jake roots for the University of Alabama, and his professional sports loyalties belong to Kansas City’s teams. The woes of being a Royals fan balances the joy of being a Chiefs fan. He also enjoys cooking, which keeps him working out in the campus gym.

Introduction to Biblical Literature
Survey the entire Bible while exploring its central themes, people, and events. This course helps you understand the overarching story of Scripture, its application in its original style and context, and emphasizes how its message applies to today’s world and your personal faith journey.
Introduction to Theology
Explore the core doctrines of the Christian faith and begin building a cohesive understanding of theology grounded in Scripture. This course covers key areas of evangelical theology such as the Bible, the Trinity, Christ, the Holy Spirit, humanity and sin, salvation, the Church, and the end times.
I love teaching at Corban because top-to-bottom, from administration down to the students, there is a culture dedicated to Corban’s mission "to educate Christians who will make a difference in the world for Jesus Christ.” That sentiment is more than a slogan at Corban. It’s the lifeblood of our campus.
