About Professor Calkins
Professor Calkins began his career as a pastor in churches in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and Eau Claire, Wisconsin, where he developed a keen interest in helping families through a variety of problems and challenges. After having attended Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, he studied for a second bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin and also earned a master’s degree in marriage and family therapy.
He worked with the child protective and the juvenile justice system in Northern Arizona, assisting in reuniting children with their families. From there, he moved to Oregon and began providing clinical supervision to other therapists, assisting in their licensure process. Prof. Calkins recently retired from the Oregon Youth Authority where he served as the Treatment Service Manager for almost 14 years.
Loren enjoys outdoor activities with his family; hiking, camping and traveling across the US. He also enjoys hunting and fishing, working on cars and motorcycles, along with harvesting wild berries. In his spare time, he practices pie building and baking, and also has a good sourdough starter that he works with to make a variety of baked goods.

I chose to teach at Corban because of the focus of a high-quality education and training to make a difference in many occupations in order to influence the world for Christ. I have a passion for the degree program within the context of the Oregon State Correctional Institution, and my daughter attended Corban University and is now finishing a residency program as a family physician.
