Spring Honors Lecture: “Christian Theology at Hogwarts?”
- Date: Mar 17, 2026
- Time: 7:00 PM
- Location: Corban University Psalm Center
This lecture explores J. K. Rowling’s worldview and its contribution to the plots and messages of the Harry Potter series. It begins with the controversy that swirled around the series in its early years, then moves into the message of the books and the Anglican Christian worldview that formed the basis of the Harry Potter story.
Along the way, we’ll consider what Christians can learn from Rowling’s approach to storytelling, and how fiction can be compelling, meaningful, and true to our faith… even when it has a little magic mixed in.
Speaker: Dr. Gary Derickson
Professor of Bible & Greek
This event is free and open to all. It counts as a chapel attendance for Corban students.
