Principal Licensure Process

Getting your Oregon principal license requires education and experience. The Principal Licensure program at Corban University is structured in alignment with the standards of the Teacher Standards and Practices Commission (TSPC) to meet these requirements.

TSPC states: “The Principal License is issued to educators who have completed a principal licensure preparation program and hold a master’s degree. The Principal License qualifies its holder to serve as a principal, vice-principal, associate principal, or an equivalent position that serves as the administrator of a public school in a prekindergarten through grade 12 Oregon public school district or education service district. The Principal License is the preliminary administrative license for the state of Oregon and signifies that the holder is prepared for leadership in the school-level context.”

Education: Before you can obtain your principal license, Oregon requires you to have:

  1. A valid teaching license.
  2. An accredited master’s degree.
  3. Successful completion of a principal licensure program that meets TSPC standards.

Experience: You will complete a 300-hour practicum during the Principal Licensure program, giving you real world experience. In addition, you must have a minimum of three years of licensed teaching experience in a K-12 school setting.

Fingerprinting and Criminal History Background: All licensure candidates must be cleared through TSPC after submission of fingerprinting documentation and criminal history background forms.

Upon your successful completion of Corban University’s Principal Licensure program, Corban will submit the license application and paperwork on your behalf and you will receive an Oregon principal license from TSPC.
