Commencement 2021

We know that you have been working hard to reach this important milestone in your educational journey. Congratulations on arriving at the end of this chapter! It is a significant accomplishment, and we are so proud of you.

On May 1, we will be recognizing you and your classmates in a Commencement ceremony. The challenge is that Corban will be hosting Commencement under very different circumstances this year. On Tuesday, it was announced that Marion County, along with a number of other counties in Oregon, is moving from the High Risk category to Extreme Risk, effective Friday, April 30.

This is not the news we had hoped we would be hearing today, and it does, unfortunately, impact our plans for Commencement this weekend.

The President’s Cabinet has decided to limit Commencement activities. Three separate Commencement ceremonies will be held in the Psalm Center, with attendance limited to graduates, faculty, and necessary staff. The 2021 graduating class, including both undergraduates and graduate students, will be divided by schools for the ceremonies, and the May 2020 graduates will join the School of Ministry’s ceremony.

We will keep the ceremonies as small as possible, maintain social distancing, and follow other protocols in an effort to honor our graduates yet minimize health risks and respect the guidelines that have been instituted.

The viewing for invited guests at the C.E. Jeffers Sport Center and receptions that we had planned will NOT be hosted. We are saddened by this necessary change, but in the Extreme Risk category, limitations on group sizes for both indoor and outdoor gatherings have been greatly reduced. All ceremonies will still be livestreamed for friends and family to watch from their own locations.
