On May 5, former Salem Area Chamber of Commerce president and Willamette Valley business leader Mike McLaran will be awarded an honorary doctorate degree from Corban University.
McLaran will deliver the keynote address during Corban’s commencement at the Salem Armory that day. The event will be attended by more than 250 undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students as well as their family, friends and supporters.
“He was selected because of his years of service to the Salem community and his reputation as a man of high integrity,” said Reno Hoff, president of Corban University. “An honorary doctorate is a way to honor someone who has led a distinguished life and Mike McLaran has done that beyond reproach.”
McLaran is currently president of McLaran Enterprises and serves as the strategic planning officer for the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce. He is known throughout the Pacific Northwest for his business and organizational management experience to help build excellence within organizations.
McLaran is an active volunteer within the Salem community and has served with the Salem Hospital board, the Salem Leadership Foundation board and the Cascade Pacific Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
Throughout his career, he has earned numerous awards including the Russel E. Pettit Memorial Excellence in Leadership Award in 2007, and the Vern Miller Distinguished Service Award from the City of Salem in 2009.
McLaran is a graduate of the University of Oregon’s Business Management program and the UCLA Institute for Organizational Management. His son, Chris McLaren is a graduate of Corban University.
