Salem, Ore. – At the SAIF Agri-Business Banquet on Friday, January 19th, President of Corban University Dr. Sheldon C. Nord announced that the school would be launching its Agriculture program this fall, beginning with an agribusiness concentration under the Hoff School of Business. This strategic decision comes on the heels of the University’s recent purchase of an additional 78 acres contiguous to campus, setting the school up for a possible comprehensive Agricultural Sciences degree in the future.
Dr. Sheldon Nord says of this new academic development, “We’re very excited about the agribusiness concentration. Not only will it allow us to make the best possible use of our resources—not the least of which is our location in the Willamette Valley—but it’s going to equip our students to meet the needs of the marketplace. Trends are indicating that careers in ag—specifically ag management and ag business—are on the rise, and we want to be equipping students to meet that need with character and competence.”
Griff Lindell, Dean of the Hoff School of Business, adds: “This concentration is going to be an exceptional complement to the business concentrations we already offer (Accounting, Marketing, Leadership & Management, and Sports & Recreation Management). It’s an exciting time for the agricultural industry, and an exciting time for Corban!”
Although curriculum is still being fine-tuned, the program will launch this fall with courses such as Marketing Agricultural Products, Commodity Markets and Food Pricing, and six credits of hands-on internship experience with local companies on the agricultural value chain. “You’ll graduate with mud on your boots!” Lindell says.
