A procession led by bagpipes and more than 500 dignitaries, alumni and Corban University supporters helped usher in the presidency of Dr. Sheldon C. Nord on Oct. 5.
The Psalm Performing Arts Center was nearly filled to capacity during the afternoon ceremony. Although Nord formally started as president on July 1, the ceremony gave many in the business and educational community an opportunity to welcome him and to hear his goals as the school’s tenth president.
Eight guest speakers offered their congratulations and encouragement including longtime Salem community leader Gerry Frank, Dr. Larry Roper, vice provost for student affairs at Oregon State University and Dr. Jonathan Parapak, rector of Universitas Pelita Harapan, Corban’s partner school in Karawaci, Indonesia.
During his inaugural address, Nord reflected on the leadership and visions of past presidents and how he plans to grow that vision while steadfastly maintaining Corban University’s heritage and mission.
“We are in the season of spring at Corban with new possibilities and unprecedented opportunities,” he said. “We have great aspirations and we will roll out new strategic plans and announce big, bold initiatives.”
The inauguration was followed by an outdoor reception with foods from the Pacific Northwest, Midwest and Indonesia.
