Between July 4 and 13, Allen Jones, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Bible in the School of Ministry, traveled to St Andrews, Scotland, for the yearly International Meeting of the Society of Biblical Literature, SBL.

While there, SBL recognized Jones with a Promising Young Scholar award for his service to SBL and to the field of Biblical Studies.

More than 800 scholars from around the world attended the conference. The Society asked Jones to assist in a workshop hosted by Alexander Samely, Professor of Jewish Thought at the University of Manchester, on his new database for early Jewish literature.

“The ISBL meeting was a wonderful time,” said Jones, who earned his doctorate from the University of St Andrews.  “I was able to hear some very interesting papers on Second Temple Judaism, and thoroughly enjoyed working with Professor Samely.  His database is a powerful resource for those who are interested in the literary aspects of Jewish writings.”

  • Dr. Allen Jones was named a Promising Young Scholar during the International Meeting of the Society of Biblical Literature in July.
