Corban University School of Business students continue to make a difference in their workplace regardless of where they serve.

In August, Steve Nielson, ‘93, received the Oregon Department of Education’s Lighthouse Award for his decade of work as the business manager for the Santiam Canyon School District in Mill City, Ore.

“In every aspect of his assigned duties, he has exhibited the highest degree of self-confidence and professionalism,” said Brad Yates, the district’s superintendent. “Steve takes great pride in all his work and is relentless in making sure the tiniest of details is given the utmost attention.”

Nielson said his time at Corban was well spent.

“It’s hard to believe it’s been almost 20 years since I graduated,” Nielson said. “What I learned in my classes from {Professor of Accounting} Bryce Bernard and {President} Reno Hoff have been invaluable in my career.”

In addition to his duties as business manager, Nielson also handles human resources, manages the district website and serves as coach for several sports. He is also active in his community and is involved in the Chamber of Commerce, helps with scholarship fundraisers, is involved in 4-H clubs and was previously named Citizen of the Year by the North Santiam Canyon Chamber of Commerce.
