The Corban Language Institute provides trips and activities to help students feel at home in Salem and the surrounding areas. Whether shopping at the Woodburn Outlets, participating in a parade in Portland, going to the beach or having fun at Foster Lake, students get a guided, first-hand experience of life in America.

Oregon State Capital

As the capital of Oregon, Salem is the home to many historic buildings and the capital building. It is located in the center of the Willamette Valley and alongside the Willamette River.


There are more than 35 neighborhood parks in the City of Salem. These include fields for playing games, tables for picnicking, and trails for walking. Twenty miles west, the Trail of Ten Falls beckons hikers at Silver Falls State Park.


Oregon hosts festivals throughout the year. Some festivals held in Salem include the Oregon State Fair, and the World Beat cultural festival.


According to Lonely Planet, Portland is one of the world’s greatest towns for weirdness, cheap food, funky neighborhoods, forest hikes and much more. Explore the city within an hour from Salem.


The Salem Saturday Market is a large outdoor arts, crafts and food market in the center of downtown. In addition, there are two malls that have department stores and other shopping centers. For a bonus, Oregon has no sales tax!

Less than 30 minutes north of Salem you can go shopping at the Woodburn Outlet Mall for great discounts on name brands like Columbia, Nike, Coach and Adidas.

Oregon Coast

The coast is just over an hour away with clean, beautiful beaches. The Oregon coast has beautiful beaches, sand dunes, rugged cliffs, lighthouses and quaint towns.

Winter sports

Mt Hood (2 hours from Salem) and Mt Bachelor (3 hours from Salem) offers fun outdoor recreational activities such as hiking, snowshoeing, sledding, skiing and snowboarding.
