Through the generations, “The Land Down Under,” “Outback,” “New Holland,” and “Great South Land” have all described Australia.
This massive island offers it all: wonderful accents, beautiful cities, gorgeous beaches, rugged outback, and exotic animals.
It is also becoming a mission field.
Of Australia’s 21.5 million people, nearly 70% profess Christianity and 14% hold to evangelical Christianity, but only 10% routinely attend church. As a result, Christian beliefs and values have been vacated. Nowhere is this more evident than in the public schools. In response, Australian Christians have established a number of private K-12 schools.
The city of Perth already has seven K-12 missional private schools that offer a Christian education. They have quickly grown and now have more than 8,000 students. This coalition is working closely with Corban University to start a higher education institution, Sheridan College.
A number of other education partners will be watching these developments with great interest. Imagine helping turn the tide of an entire nation. All things are possible as God continues to open doors for us “down under”.
