Secondary Education

Young people today are facing different challenges than the previous generation. Today’s teens are growing up as “digital natives” and experiencing increased anxiety and depression, all while having to navigate the tumultuous path toward becoming adults. Now more than ever, they need a support system of adults who truly care about them and their future. Often, those role models, mentors, and encouragers are their teachers.

In Corban’s secondary education program, you’ll be equipped to change the lives of young people as you educate them in a range of disciplines, all while showing that you care about their personal, mental, and spiritual wellbeing.

Whether you see yourself teaching in the public school system, in faith-based schools, or even overseas, you’ll be prepared to teach with excellence and compassion in Corban’s top-rated, AAQEP-accredited education program.

Choose from these subject areas:

  • You can explain difficult concepts in a clear manner.
  • You’re not afraid to show tough love.

What You’ll Learn

As you prepare to teach middle school or high school students, you will take extensive courses in the subject area you choose, as well as key education courses to give you a strong foundation for teaching. This blend of studies, plus your classroom experience each year, ensures that you are well-prepared as a teacher candidate and a subject-matter expert before you take on your own classroom.

Professional education courses for all secondary education majors include:

  • Intro to Education
  • Teaching Exceptional Learners
  • Psychology of Education
  • Intercultural Communication
  • Classroom Management & Discipline
  • Infant, Child & Adolescent Development

You may also choose to add an ESOL endorsement to any secondary education degree, giving you an extra advantage in the job market.
