Roomies Night Out

A success beyond the seas

By Kristyn Johnson

On Friday, April 4th the annual Doves and Eagles Fellowship sponsored event, “Roomies Night Out” took place with the expected excitement and suspense. “Roomies”: the event in which a person’s roommate sets them up on a blind date, was yet again a success as the couples showed up in their savage-like costumes for a pirate-themed evening.

With the suspense of who was going to come pick them up, the girls anxiously got ready as their roommates giggled, for only they knew who was coming.

In the halls of Balyo, the girls ran about, raiding other girls’ closets to find the perfect accessory or a matching scarf to wrap around their heads.

“Getting ready was fun and exciting,” Marcie Smith said. “I wanted to look my best for whoever was going to come get me but then I could only wonder if my date would even dress up.”

The time came to walk out to the lobby to see their dates and what ensued was a throng of laughter and photography flashes.

“When I walked out and saw Zack Jackson I knew that it was going to be a great night,” Erin Kropf said.

Arriving at First Baptist Church, the various couples in their unique costumes entered into a room filled with pirate paraphernalia and games.

The games consisted of digging for eggs, swallowing a live fish, and singing songs that no one knew the words to. The catch, however, was that the couples had to spend the whole night tied to the ankle of their date: this made playing games a whole new world.

The laughter and pictures continued as couples were stumbling and falling, trying to figure out how to work together and walk around all night long.

People were throne in a makeshift “jail,” prizes were won, and all who commented considered it a success. The original goal may even have been accomplished—there just might have been a few budding romances at this matchless pirate soiree.
