Student leaders chosen for '08-'09

Although it was not a heavily contested election, victory was sweet for David Collett and running mate Josh Warner. Collett, a junior English and biblical studies major, was elected Associated Student Body president when students cast ballots after chapel on Monday, March 17. Warner, a sophomore business management major, won the vice presidency.
Collett is the only returning member from this year’s student body government. Although he is an ASB veteran with two years experience as communications coordinator, he foresees the lack of experience as president to be the biggest challenge he will face next year.
“[It] will be challenging; it is also exciting, because it is like a fresh start, and we can build upon experience from past years,” he said.
According to Collett, “The president is essentially there to support and guide the rest of the ASB team” and serve as a link between students and the administration.
Though he mentioned no major changes for next fall, Collett said he does plan to improve student representation.
“I also want to connect the administration and the students more. ASB is here as representatives for the students, and we want to make sure their voices are heard,” he said.
Warner, a newcomer on the ASB board, emphasized the spirit of service he hopes to bring as vice-president.
“I am running because I want to have the opportunity to make a difference in the Corban College community,” Warner said.
Also elected were Kacie Woosley, Jordan Lindsey, Jason Bernard, Megan Franklin, and Ben Pearson.
Kacie Woosley was elected student activities coordinator after running against freshman Janet Galambush and junior Stephanie Garrick. The three candidates made the coordinator position the most sought-after office.
Jordan Lindsey, another fresh addition, ran against freshman Joel Martini for communications coordinator. Lindsey, a health science major focusing in pre-veterinary science, said in a pre-election interview, “People should vote for me because I love people. I love to communicate. I love to talk.”
Jason Bernard, a twenty-year-old social studies education major, plans to continue the standards set by this year’s intramural coordinator. “I want to make sure that the high quality of intramural athletics at Corban is continued through the next school year,” he said. “I feel Keith Weary [this year’s intramurals coordinator] did a very good job with intramurals this year and I hope to follow in his footsteps.” Bernard plans to have more weekend events for students who are busy during the week.
Megan Franklin, the new student ministries coordinator, ran against sophomore Katy Drake. Franklin, an elementary education major, mentioned her love for working with people as key to her future role.
Ben Pearson, who was elected to coordinate next year’s student organizations, believes students should consider more than just credentials when voting for ASB officers. “It comes down to how people view one’s character and integrity,” Pearson, a twenty-one-year-old biblical studies major, said in a pre-election interview. “If the student body thinks I have these, then I hope they will vote for me, but if not then I hope they don't.”
