Soba Restaurant redefining Asian food
By Kate Snyder
J-Lab Staff Writer
When most people think of an Asian restaurant, they picture traditional Asian music, green tea, and an assortment of authentic delicacies to introduce to their palate. If this is the type of Asian restaurant experience you desire, than don’t go to Soba Asian Bistro.
The bistro is located in a lovely downtown building on State street, with an interior that adorns hard wood floors and a vaulted blue ceiling. Aside from the menu items, one would never know that Soba was an Asian restaurant, as upon entering you will hear the musical stylings of such artists as Feist, Tegan and Sara, and Radiohead. Soba’s menu offers very non-traditional Asian cuisine, with the restaurant’s most popular items being teriyaki chicken and mandarin chicken salad. While the menu items may not be authentically Asian, Soba offers a complete vegan menu in addition to the regular food items, a characteristic that makes Soba rather distinct from most Salem restaurants.
The menu prices are extremely reasonable, with the most expensive item running at $7.95. Soba also offers free drinks to students when they provide proof of a school ID card.
Soba is a great place to eat if you are in a hurry. The restaurant caters to customers on the go, providing up front ordering service and a waiting time of only 5 to 10 minutes until the food arrives. Along with dine in service, Soba also offers to-go orders.
Soba is open Mon. - Fri. from 11a.m. - 9p.m and on Sat. from 11:30a.m. - 9p.m.
