Steigleman all-time scorer in ladies basketball
By Josh Lyons
J-Lab Staff Writer
When senior Jessica Steigleman hit a three-pointer, On Jan. 12, in an away game against Warner Pacific; the Corban bench stood up and the crowd cheered. Coach Terry Williams called a timeout after the basket and the P.A. announcer told the crowd that Steigleman had become Corban’s all-time leading scorer. She had surpassed Christy Nordstrom’s record point total of 1,502 points.
Steigleman’s teammates screamed and yelled as she approached the sidelines. The Corban crowd gave her a standing ovation.
“The other team's announcer didn't know what was going on, so he asked Coach Williams, and when Coach told him, the announcer announced what was going on,” Steigleman said.“The time-out seemed like forever, I was blushing like crazy, but they all made it so special and memorable!”
The Churchill High School grad is averaging a team high 17.7 points per game this season and 19.3 per game in conference play. Earlier this season Steigleman had a stretch of six games in a row where she scored over 20 points and has scored over 20 points in 12 games this season.
On Feb. 8, Steigleman posted a season high 25 points, one point shy of tying her career high.
Steigleman is shooting just below 42 percent from the field and 45 percent from three-point range.
“All I can say is how blessed my entire experience has been with the women's basketball team these past 4 years,” she said.“It is a pretty sweet honor to be the all-time leading scorer.”
