Warrior ladies "Think Pink"

By Mark Flores
J-Lab Staff Writer

Led by Junior Kailey Bostwick, Sophmore Emily Goette, and Senior Jessica Steigleman, the Lady Warriors battled and came out with a hard fought win on a night where the basketball they played took second to cancer-awareness. Feb. 15 marked the first breast-cancer awareness basketball game on Corban's campus.

In an atmosphere that brought out emotion from all in attendance, Corban took the floor with a bigger goal than winning in mind.

After falling victim to an early 12-6 deficient, Corban responded with a 10-4 point run and fused the score at 16 all. Sensing the weakened state of Warner Pac, Corban jumped out to an eight point lead sparked by a Bostwick jumper.

With the Warriors leading 35-27 at halftime, all focus turned to the “Think Pink” theme when staggering breast cancer-victim statistics blared from the Warriors' PA. Clad in pink, that evening was all about bringing cancer-awareness to the Warriors' fans in an effort to make a difference in their community.

Only a half away from victory, Corban never relinquished their lead seeing a new school record for assists in a game set at 14 by junior Kailey Bostwick.

On the receiving end of many of Bostwick’s passes, the hot shooting of Sophmore Emily Goette spurred the Warrior offense and kept the visiting Knights on their heels.

Warner Pac cut the Warrior lead to a single point (70-69) with less than 2:20 remaining but solid defense, a crucial jumper by senior Jessica Steigleman and two late free throws by guard Kailey Bostwick iced the game for Corban.

Still in the hunt for the eighth and final playoff spot, the lady Warriors improve to 9-18 overall and 5-12 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference.
