Wednesday, February 29, 2012

Visitors to the Psalm Visual Arts Gallery at Corban University can experience “Portals of Prayer & Cosmic Expressionism” in March.

The gallery showcases Portland artist Valerie Sjodin’s series of paintings that are “autobiographical visual prayers that portray searching, being grateful for inspiration, praying, agonizing desperation and the joy of revelation.”

“My hope for the ‘Portals of Prayer’ series is to convey the connection we can have with our loving Creator, between the infinite and the intimate,” Sjodin said. “The patterns, palettes, and architectural styles are inspired from times and places around the globe to reflect our human commonality and uniqueness.”

Sjodin is also an author and teaches art journaling and mixed media workshops as well as how to make books. For more information about her, visit www.valeriesjodin.com.

The Psalm Visual Arts Gallery is free to the public open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. It is located in the Psalm Performing Arts Center on the Corban University campus, at 5000 Deer Park Dr. SE, in Salem. For more information, call 503-581-8600.
