Corban women take lead in CCC

Wednesday, February 8, 2012

Corban Warrior women took the top spot in the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) Saturday after a 76-62 win over the College of Idaho on the Warrior’s home court.

The team is also ranked 13th in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) with four games remaining in the regular season.

Senior Katie Steigleman has fought against a torn ACL in her left knee, which cost her six season matchups. In Steigleman’s absence and subsequent return, freshman Tara Vanweerdhuizen has filled in the scoring gap. On Friday she put 24 points on the board, got 10 rebounds and blocked four shots.

If the Warriors win the regular season CCC Championship or the conference tournament on Feb. 22 – 28, they will receive an automatic bid to the NAIA national tournament.
