April/May Artist:
International Peoples — the photography of McKenzie Stott

At Peace

The Psalm Visual Arts Gallery is proud to feature the contemplative and sensitive images of McKenzie Stott through May 3. Stott’s work reveals perceptive observations of peoples in their native settings.

Stott’s insightful view of a person’s simple lifestyle and strong spirit draws us into another world; it also gives us somewhat of an emotional connection to what she felt as she traveled extensively on the viewer’s behalf. Stott is truly an intellectually insightful young woman and a masterful author who writes her stories with the camera.

Artist’s Statement:

“I began my artistic journey with photography in 1996, becoming enamored with the sacred relationships we all hold with one another and, specifically, our landscape. During the past year, I took a trip from Tanzania to Thailand, photographing various cultures in the context of a project called, 'Sacred Faces, Sacred Places.' By the word sacred, I meant something that holds meaning, not only in our religious landscapes but in the mundane tasks that become part of who we are in each present moment and over the course of this human experience. Each picture represents a moment in time where even the simplest area becomes all-encompassing to its walker. In order for people to flourish, we must find peace within the pleasures of our own confines and daily tasks and, with that stillness, create our own world.”
