World Outreach Week is campus-wide focus
October 23, 2009
During the week of October 26-30, students, faculty and staff are involved in Corban’s annual missions conference, now called World Outreach Week. The theme is “A Hitchhiker’s Guide to God’s Global Journey,” which follows the overall campus theme for the year, Dedicated to the Journey. Throughout the week students will be challenged to align their lives with God’s global purposes through cross-cultural ministries.
Keynote speaker, Dr. J. Ronald Blue, is a national and international speaker. He has served as a missionary in Central America and is currently president of missions organization CAM International. A prolific author, he has taught missions at Dallas Seminary for 44 years. Dr. Blue launched the Spanish Doctor of Ministry program with Dallas Seminary and also at Seminario Teológico Centro Americano (SETECA) in Guatemala.
World Outreach Week also brings representatives of nearly 20 missions agencies onto campus. These missionary guests serve the Corban community, sharing information and interacting with students about God’s work around the world. They are also speaking in many classes throughout the week, interacting with students over meals in the cafeteria and participating in several evening events in the resident halls.
Paul Johnson, Assistant Professor of Intercultural Studies and Bible, said Corban’s new student missions organization, TrueNorth Corps, has prepared diligently to maximize the number of opportunities available for students this year. He said, “In the years ahead, we hope World Outreach Week will continue to grow in significance, as we seek to build a Great Commission culture among the students, faculty and staff of Corban.”
