Alumni games challenge current students
August 27, 2009
Last weekend the men’s and women’s soccer alumni challenged the current respective teams, and the weekend prior, volleyball alumnae tested this year’s Women’s Volleyball Team.
“It’s nice of the alumni to come and give the students some great practice,” said Deleen Wills, Director of Alumni Services.
Thirteen volleyball alumnae made a strong appearance. Alumna Danielle Steed came the farthest to play—from Hillsborough, Calif. Two alumnae teams rotated during the game and together took the match. Afterward, the former Warriors had a chance to greet new players and reconnect with past teammates. They also welcomed new Head Volleyball Coach Nels Norquist to Corban, who most recently led Corban’s fellow conference member Cascade College to their most wins in more than a decade.
Soccer fan-atics enjoyed a Warrior women’s challenge last Saturday: The 19 alumnae could not stand against Corban, who beat them 6-1. Coach Ziesemer said, “It was great to see the amount of alumni return and to hear their stories.
Several alumni came to my house for dinner that evening, and it was great to reconnect and meet spouses and children.”
Also last Saturday, Coach Irby led the Men’s Soccer Team to a victory over the alumni, 2-1. Twenty-seven daring alumni joined this fight, although it later ended peaceably over chicken caesar roll-ups, chips, and cookies.
The next alumni challenge is October 31, when men’s and women’s basketball alumni take on the 2009-10 teams. For more information, email dwills@corban.edu.
