Homecoming Weekend October 5-7

September 21, 2007

For the first time, Corban alumni have been invited to an entire weekend devoted to opportunities for gathering with friends and faculty.  In keeping with its theme of “Rediscover, Reconnect, and Renew,” Homecoming 2007 will offer a variety of activities in places that alumni are sure to appreciate.

Beginning on Friday morning at the Psalm Performing Arts Center, a special Homecoming Chapel will include alumni in both music and message.  Immediately following the chapel service, Corban staff will formally dedicate the newly finished Resurrection sculpture which stands directly outside the Psalm Center doors.  It is the first major outdoor art structure on campus.

The Salem Golf Club will be the tee-off for Corban’s Golf Challenge Tournament.  Some fun-loving teams have already been formed with more in the making.  Starting at noon on Friday, this event will also help fund student scholarships.

Classrooms in the Academic Center will provide “Classes Without Quizzes” for those who want to relive some of their classroom experience on Friday afternoon.  “Teaching the Bible” with Dr. Sam Baker, “Old Testament Survey” with Campus Pastor Kent Kersey, and “History of Russia” with Professor John Scott are current classes which will be open for alumni to attend.

Just off Western Way, the home of Dr. and Mrs. Reno Hoff will provide a comfortable setting for alumni of the 1950s and 1960s to visit with Corban’s first couple later on Friday afternoon.

The Clock Tower as a work-in-progress will provide a significant place in time for alumni to gather as it is dedicated on Saturday morning.

Alumni will again be welcomed to the Psalm Performing Arts Center when a Faculty Reception will be held, followed by the Alumni Awards Luncheon.  Alumni Dan Wilder, Reid Saunders, and Dr. Rich Meyers will be honored Saturday afternoon.

The Pavilion will serve as dining areas for Reunion Dinners on both weekend nights.  Dinners for the Classes of ’67, ’72, and ’77 are scheduled for Friday evening.  Saturday night there will be dinners for the Classes of ’82, ’87, and ’97.

Warrior sports events will draw spectators to C.E. Jeffers Sports Center for volleyball on Friday night and the Sportsplex for soccer on Saturday afternoon.

Tours of the campus, a stop at the College Bookstore, and the new disc golf course offer more places to reconnect with friends throughout the weekend.

Many of these events require reservations now which can be done by registering with the Alumni Office.  You can register on-line and get more information at www.corban.edu/alumni/homecoming.html or call Deleen Wills at 503-589-8182.
