Corban community gathers blessings for
Houck families

November 22, 2005

Students, staff, faculty and administration are invited to participate in a Christmas gift-giving event sponsored by the faculty office.

The gifts are for middle-school youngsters who attend Houck Middle School, which is a “business partner” with Corban College.

“The [Houck] administration was so excited to hear of our outreach to them,” said Jan Hopkins, faculty secretary. “There are many low-income families who will be blessed by our generosity.”

About 1,100 sixth- through eighth-graders attend Houck, which is located north of Highway 22 and east of Lancaster Avenue. Youngsters from the school developed a list of gifts that would be appealing to sixth- to eighth-graders. [See below.]

“We will make a delivery to Houck on Wednesday, Dec. 14,” Hopkins said. “People can bring gifts to the faculty office, on the fifth floor of the Academic Center, anytime before then.”

If the gift is wrapped, please designate on the outside if it is a gift for a boy or a girl, or either, and note what the gift is, Hopkins requested. It is not necessary to wrap the gifts, she added. The faculty office will be glad to do that for those who bring in gifts for Houck families.

“Don’t like to shop?” Hopkins asked. “If you donate the money, we will do the shopping for you!”

Gifts until Dec. 14 will be placed under the Christmas tree with its golden ornaments in the faculty office, Hopkins said.
