Annual Music Tour Outreach is a Positive Experience

Wonderful attendance, an outreach ministry through music, and many positive comments about the quality and character of Western Baptist students were but a few of the highlights from the annual choir and band tour in the Seattle area, Feb.16-21.

The entire music team introduced WB (Corban) to many people who are not aware of the college and they were able to share what is happening on campus and in the music department. At each church and school, the musicians met with future students planning to attend Corban College this fall and those who are interested in attending in the future. There was also time for fellowship with the many friends of the College who were at each of the churches and schools.

The choirs and band, comprised of 61 students, toured several Seattle area schools and churches. The concert choir had been previously been invited to perform in Bellevue, at the bi-annual All-Northwest Music Educators Association (MENC) regional convention, Feb. 18.

“The repertoire that Professor Matt Strauser selected was very ambitious for any choir, especially one that does not require an audition,” said Dr. Virginia Cross, Music Department Chair. “Our students sang beautifully and left a very positive impression with the educators in attendance from around the Northwest."

Professor Dan Shuholm, Director of Bands and Worship Arts, says he was proud of how these student musicians represented the College's music department. He also received positive comments from several choir directors who were impressed with the group as they successfully sang more difficult music.

“We also had the opportunity to pray with a number of people at our concerts which was quite meaningful at the Sunday morning church service. The church is going through some difficult times and greatly appreciated our visit,” Shuholm says. “By the end of the tour, I was deeply touched by the effort and quality of our students.  They gave their best throughout the tour and it was evident in their servant attitudes that honoring the Lord was the most important goal on tour.”
