Choir, Orchestra Bring Christmas Music to the Capitol Rotunda
The sounds of the Christmas season came alive inside the State Capitol Rotunda, Dec. 10, as 80 Western Baptist musicians presented a concert. For an hour, the music of the season reverberated in the State House bringing smiles to all who watched the students.
Professors Matt Strauser (choir) and Dan Shuholm (orchestra) directed the musicians through a variety of songs, hymns, and classical Christmas works. Music Department Chair, Dr. Virginia Cross led the hymn singing.
At one point Oregon Secretary of State Bill Bradbury came from his office to listen to the final half of the concert. He said that he was drawn to the "angelic music" he had been hearing. "These young people are marvelous," he said. "They really make it sound like Christmas. I had to leave early so I could see what I'd been hearing."
The choir and orchestra had been invited to perform at the Rotunda. They had also presented a concert twice on Dec. 3, at WB's annual Christmas Showcase.
