Choirs Chosen to Perform at Two Music Conferences Choirs from Western Baptist College’s music department have been selected by Northwest music education leaders to perform at two different regional conferences in 2005. It is the first time a WB music group has been selected for this honor. Western’s chamber choir has been invited to perform at the annual Oregon Music Educators Association convention in Eugene, Jan. 15. The concert choir has been selected to perform at the Northwest regional conference of the Music Educators National Convention in Bellevue, Wash., Feb. 18. “It’s quite remarkable and a great honor to be chosen by the leaders of these professional organizations to perform at these prestigious venues,” said Dr. Virginia Cross, the chair of Western’s Music Department. “It’s also wonderful recognition for our fine choral department under Professor Matt Strauser’s leadership.” All-state bands, choirs, and orchestras will also perform at the OMEA convention as will other outstanding performing groups from Oregon schools, colleges, and universities. All-Northwest high school choirs, bands, and orchestras plus, several of the top performing ensembles from schools in the six-state region will perform for the educators at the MENC convention. Ensemble directors and classroom music teachers from primary and secondary schools as well as college music instructors form the membership of the OMEA and the MENC. If you live in the Seattle area, be sure and attend the choir and band tour concerts to be held in February. For more information write mstrauser@corban.edu or, dshuholm@corban.edu |
