In Memory of...
Nancy Wolfe 1952-2004
The Western Baptist family has lost a wonderful sister in Christ. Nancy Wolfe went home to be with the Lord on Monday, June 7, after a long battle with cancer. She will always be remembered with distinct fondness as a kind, warm and servant-hearted lady who loved the College and the people who work here.
A part-time employee since 1996, Nancy worked in the Alumni and Development Office where she began as an administrative assistant working three days a week. She said to others many times that being at Western was not a job, it was her ministry. This was most evident to anyone who came into contact with her as she greeted people from behind her desk or on the phone. Nancy loved to host office birthday celebrations and always extended a warm welcome to guests. If it was her day to work, she wanted to be busy at her desk.
Her dear friend and office mate, Nancy Sperling, says like many people, she was in awe of Nancy's ability to tackle a project, embrace and love it, and always make something good happen. "She added character and joy to whatever she did. Even after she became weaker Nancy always wanted to be at work. She held on to the fervent hope that God would allow her to return to work because she felt we were her second family."
In recent years Nancy accepted the challenge of helping to organize the annual Alumni Golf Tournament in September. Her organizational skills and style left a positive mark on the event which has allowed the tourney to grow and encourage more alumni involvement.
Nancy
would not utter a negative comment or discouraging word about another
person. She felt her words had an ability to affect her and the people
around her. In order to have joy in her own life she felt that being joyful
and encouraging others was the only path to take.
