Van Gilder Hall Men Read From
With Christmas decorations accenting a very pleasant setting, 65 young men spent 20 minutes each imparting God’s inspired Word to all who could listen during a 24-hour period in the Prewitt-Van Gilder Hall lobby, Dec. 3-4.
Van Gilder Hall Resident Director, Rodney Dlouhy said the men began reading at 5 p.m. on Friday with a prayer of dedication to God. The readers, some who already read two and three times, started in Genesis and worked through even the very detailed genealogies of the ancient ancestors and the descriptive laws of Leviticus.
“In the two previous years we’ve started in Matthew and read through the New Testament as time permitted. We’d then end with Revelation, then jump over to Genesis and later finish the time reading in the Psalms,” Rodney said. “This year our RAs chose to start ‘in the beginning’ and read everything because it was all living and breathing words of God.”
For Rodney it was a tremendous encouragement to see so many young men wanting to read, including some who attempted to convince other residents to give up their own time slot so they could read again.
“This event has been one of the highlights of my RD career” Rodney added. “The men of VG were inspiring. I appreciated the efforts of the RAs and my wife, Evie, setting up for the event, plus, for all the lobby assistants who kept the readers going and encouraged.” |
