John Bartsch reflects on local church ministry
I have been blessed to be of service to the Lord in my church (Salem Evangelical Church) since our new worship pastor, Jonathan Maurer has joined our staff. Jonathan is in charge of music, and brings a breath of freshest air to our church community.
Soon after he arrived, various members of the music team started talking about me, and suggested that he meet me. You must understand that our church is relatively large, and not everybody knows each other.
One Sunday Tom Wilson, trumpeter, introduced me to Jonathan. Almost immediately, Jonathan began asking me to write for the instrumentalists that participate in our worship.
I am happy to say that I have been busy most weeks in writing parts for worship that are played by our very talented instrumentalists. And Jonathan is so affirming of my abilities. This is the first time since coming to the church in 2006 that I have been able to use my talents for the Lord on a regular basis. I am so blessed to be able to do this.
Under the previous director, I was only occasionally asked to write parts, and only for some Christmas seasons. But we are in a different ball game with Jonathan. I am so pleased and happy to have an active part in using a gift for the Church.
