A move from Indiana brought Corban’s new assistant professor of music a little closer to home.

Mark Stanek, D.A., is originally from Spokane, Wash. and moved to Salem with his wife, Emily, from the Midwest state. He previously worked as an adjunct music professor at Anderson University and a visiting professor at Indiana University East.

Stanek has a B.A. in music education and an M.A. in guitar performance. His doctorate work was focused on classical guitar performance and orchestral conducting. However, he noted he is always studying new music trends and other topics that interest him.

“I’m especially interested in film music,” he said. “I’d like to do some additional research in this area and see what comes of it.”

Stanek will teach music history, ear training, guitar and conducting during the fall semester. Additionally he will lead Corban’s orchestra.

Stanek can be reached by email at mstanek@corban.edu
