Award-winning writer and photographer Laura Wrede spent more than two years traveling from San Diego, Calif. to Vancouver, British Columbia creating art photography along the shores of the Pacific.
In August and the first half of September the Psalm Visual Arts Gallery at Corban University will feature photographs and writings from Wrede’s newly released book “My Ocean.” The public is invited to meet her and explore her work at a free artist reception on Aug. 2 between 7 and 9 p.m.
“’My Ocean’ is a coffee table art photo book written in journal style, covering a thirty-day journey exploring various characteristics of life from the shore,” Wrede said. “Each day reveals something new. There are facts about tide pools and sea life, to lighthouses and bridges. It also reveals simple things such as patterns in sand, layers in rock and the essence of waves.”
Wrede’s book and photographs were created not only to entertain, inspire, and educate her readers, but also to encourage them to appreciate the need to protect our oceans. Part of the proceeds of the book will go to organizations such as One World One Ocean and the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute.
The Psalm Visual Arts Gallery is located on Corban University’s Salem campus at 5000 Deer Park Dr. SE. The gallery is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and is free to the public.
