The Corban Community received word that Corban senior Sara Swenson passed away May 3 with her parents at her side. She was an inspiration to thousands throughout her battle with cancer. Although she is now healed and worshipping God as never before, she leaves family and friends who must continue on.
Her CaringBridge site ishttp://www.caringbridge.org/visit/swenson for anyone who would like to send a word of encouragement to Sara’s family. Their latest post came to us from her mother the day after Sara was called home.
“I'm sure that everyone understands that there are both sweet memories and difficult details to handle at this point in time. Looking through Sara's things for a display, I found collages she had made last summer that kind of journal her journey through this battle with cancer. One saying she had put up . . . ‘She was stronger than she ever imagined, Jesus was closer than she ever realized, and she was loved more than she ever knew.’ Tears flowed.
“Also, since some have been asking about donations . . . we have contacted Corban University and set up a scholarship fund in Sara's memory. Donations can be sent to Corban University, 5000 Deer Park Dr SE, Salem, OR 97317-9330. Be sure to put Sara Swenson Scholarship Fund on the memo line.
“It is hard to express the depth of our gratitude to everyone. Those words just keep echoing in my head… ‘She was loved more than she ever knew.’ God is very gracious to us.”
Friday, May 6, a Celebration of Life service was held at Corban University’s Psalm Performing Arts Center followed by reflection exercises in the Emitte Center for students and staff.
