Elizabeth Ann Bartruff
January 18, 1973 – December 25, 2010
Beth’s passion was sharing the Good News of Jesus’ love to all. She was a faithful servant of her Lord even in her final hours. Her kind selfless talk and actions, smiling face and thoughtfulness of others inspired and even transformed those around her. Even in the short time since her death several hundred people have testified via Facebook, email and in person.
Being diagnosed with Lupus at age 15 and living with its many complications and side effects did not deter Beth from her drive and zeal to serve her Lord. She always put others and her ministry before herself. She loved working with young people and was continuously working with her church’s youth groups—and she was loved by everyone that knew her. Her conscientiousness and dedication were clearly demonstrated in her teaching career as well as in her frequent short-term mission trips.
Her goal was to help young people come to know Jesus as their savior and then live their life for Him to its fullest extent. She mentored and loved many youth at Salem Heights Church. Her vacations were usually mission trips to places such as Mexico, Spain, Honduras and Arizona Navajo Indian Reservations.
She was born in Salem and moved to Seaside until age 4. She then moved to Tualatin where she attended Gaarde Christian Preschool, Tualatin and Bridgeport Elementary, Twality Junior High and Tigard High School. At Tigard High, her leadership manifested itself in many ways such as senior class president, yearbook editor and prom queen. She continued her education at Willamette University earning her bachelor’s degree with a double major, Spanish and Psychology. She earned her master’s degree in teaching. In 2009, she earned her doctorate degree in education from George Fox University.
Beth taught sixth grade at Mt. Angel Middle School for five years and then decided to use her experience and training to teach others to be teachers at Corban University where she was an Associate Professor.
Beth will be missed by her parents, Vic and Carolyn Bartruff, big brother, Victor, sister in law, Jeanah, plus aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, colleagues, students, neighbors and youth she mentored. Family and friends rejoice with her that she is pain free in heaven as of Christmas Day. Beth’s beautiful smile brought much sunshine to all whose lives she touched.
