  • Corban Provost Matt Lucas addresses a lunchtime crowd at the Kroc Center in Salem. More than $14,000 was raised for scholarships during the 1-hour program.

Corban University students reliant on scholarships received a big boost from donors during fundraiser at the Kroc Center on Oct. 26.

More than $14,000 was raised or pledged during the 1-hour scholarship luncheon, which featured past and present students who benefitted from the generosity of Corban alumni, faculty and area business owners. All donations are placed into a general scholarship fund for students who need assistance.

“This year all of the students who spoke were completely local,” said Deleen Wills, Corban’s director of alumni services. “They were men and women who are actively engaged in the Salem community and represented a good cross-section of Corban’s scholarship recipients.”

Each table of eight was sponsored by a host who invited seven others to join them for the meal. The table hosts are an important component to the continued success of the fundraiser and the students it serves, she said.

“It’s wonderful that our table hosts bring in new folks year after year,” she said. “Many guests were introduced to Corban for the first time. The student testimonies got people motivated. Something resonated with them.”
