November 5–6, 2010

Parents who want to catch a glimpse into the lives of their Corban students will have an opportunity Nov. 5 and 6.

The Parent Weekend gives moms and dads a way to learn more about their sons and daughters and discover what life is like on campus. Cathy Downs, an administrative assistant for Student Life, has coordinated the event for eight years and said it is a good experience for everyone involved.

“It’s a time for parents to connect with other students and meet who their sons and daughters have made friends with,” she said. “When you get together with your kids and their friends, you’ll meet their parents and form common bonds.”

On Friday, parents can attend classes and chapel and eat lunch in the dining hall. There will be a financial aid seminar for parents interested in planning ahead for the next school year. On Friday evening, parents and students are invited to a catered dinner with Corban University President Reno Hoff, who will share his vision for Corban and his aspirations for its students.

The evening will continue with a concert by the Corban University Jazz Band at the Historic Grand Theatre in Salem followed by the infamous Lumberjack Games with a water log roll, axe tossing competition and more.

On Saturday, parents and their students can feat at a brunch with guest speaker Sam Baker, an associate professor of Student and Family Ministries at Corban University.  Afterward, each family can display their Warrior spirit at a soccer game.

Lunch at Corban is $6.50 and Friday’s catered dinner is $16 per person and $8 for siblings ages 15 to 18. Brunch is $12 per adult and $8 per sibling. Parents can purchase all meals for $30 per adult and $10 per sibling. There is no charge for Corban students.

The Parent Weekend provides a fantastic opportunity to walk the walk with their student and Downs said it shouldn’t be missed.

“We have a lot of fun,” she said. There are door prizes and we have a great emcee. It’s going to be a good celebration because our students are worthy of a celebration.”
