Corban to sponsor unique 5k event
February 5, 2010
The College is planning a 5k relay event for May 22, 2010. This inaugural event is called “12 Hours @ Corban” and features a 5k (3.1 mile) cross-county loop that circles Corban’s campus and surrounding State property. While mostly a grass trail, a very fast 1000m finish is on asphalt. The elevation rise during the loop is an estimated 190 feet.
The event’s format features teams of 1 to 12 runners each; begins at 8 a.m., with 8 p.m. marking the close of the race and each team’s final lap. The team from each category that can post the most laps in the shortest amount of time wins that category.
The team nature and scenic setting of “12 Hours @ Corban” make it ideal for the enjoyment of the Oregon community, including Hood To Coast Relay trainees. The event will generate funds to support the Oregon Special Olympics, as well as Corban athletics.
Dave Johnson, Director of Athletics, said, “We wanted to provide something fun for the community. The unique team format of this event is something people in Oregon are looking for, because they want to work out and stay fit. This kind of event helps them stay motivated.”
In addition, sporting gear and nutrition companies are invited to host a booth at a sporting-goods expo held on site during the relay. For more information, contact Dave Johnson at 503-375-7005 or djohnson@corban.edu.
