"A Winter Fantasy" Mid January Concert

Wednesday, December 31, 2008

“A Winter Fantasy” features alumna flutist Diane Hawkins and harpist Laura Zaerr on Friday, January 16, 2009. Ms. Hawkins is the adjunct instructor of flute at Corban and Miss Zaerr teaches at the University of Oregon. The duo has played together for over 15 years. Free and open to the public, the concert is in the Psalm Performing Arts Center at 7:30 p.m.

“A Winter Fantasy” will highlight music in different styles, from different time periods, and played on different flutes. Ms. Hawkins masters the modern flute, the alto flute, the traverso flute (an early wooden flute used from the mid-1600s to the 1800s), along with her personal favorite, the Native American flute. Arrangements of familiar classical pieces will blend with performances of original compositions by Miss Zaerr, jazz numbers, and Celtic pieces. Ms. Hawkins notes, “There’ll be something for everybody.”

Miss Zaerr will have CD’s available for purchase, but the concert is a gift to the community. Come and enjoy!
