Photographs show nature at its best

Monday, March 26, 2007

All things bright and beautiful find their way into the work of Salem photographer and graphic designer Jessica Marple.

Marple catches nature and humanity at its best. She specializes in capturing that momentary ray of sunlight peeking through the trees, that shy bullfrog singing at a pond’s edge, that uninhibited kindergartener picking flowers. Her delightful photographs are on display at the Corban College’s Psalm Center Gallery during the month of April.

Marple grew up on Northern California and graduated from CSU Sacramento with a bachelor’s degree in communication studies in 2000. After graduation, she worked at the University of Southern California’s Sacramento campus, serving as the registrar and graphic designer.

Following in the footsteps of her father who enjoys design and photography, Marple began exploring photography on the job and on her own time, eventually becoming the USC Sacramento campus photographer.

In 2005, Marple moved to Oregon to begin a communications job at Corban. Among other things, she helps maintain the college’s Web site, designs print products and shoots photos. Oregon has opened a whole new venue for photography, and she enjoys spending her free time traveling throughout the state – and beyond.

Corban’s Psalm Center Gallery is located at 5000 Deer Park Dr., SE. It’s open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. Admission is free. For more information, call 503-375-7005 or log on towww.corban.edu. A selection of Marple’s photos can be found online at www.hellobutterfly.com.
