BRONZE PENHOLDER
With water pot and hinged cover. Part of the equipment of an Egyptian scribe. Writing equipment varied in nature and style according to the wealth and desires of each scribe. The pens were reeds, some sharpened into points, some frayed for brush effect. Carbon ink cakes were used, made of soot, water and some gummy substance, and dried. They are similar to modern water color cakes, except for size and shape, and wet for use in the same manner.
