Borrowing & Circulation
Checking out materials
Your Corban ID is your library card. You must have it with you to check out materials, place holds or renew items. You may not check out items using another patron's card. All media must be checked out at the Circulation Desk.
Reference books, periodicals, curriculum, indexes, atlases, archive materials, and microforms are non-circulating and may not be checked out.
Library patrons may borrow materials for the following amounts of time:
- Circulating material: 3 weeks
- Periodicals, Vertical File, Curriculum, Videos: 1 week
- Reference materials and current periodicals: library use only
Circulating materials may be renewed providing there is not a hold on the item. There is a limit of two renewals per item. Renewals may be made by phone or website. No renewals are given for periodicals, vertical file materials, curriculum, or videos.
Reserve materials are located at the Circulation Desk. They are loaned for 2-hours, overnight or 7-days as directed by the Instructor. Two-hour reserve materials are Library use only.
If you have items overdue for more than 20 days, your borrowing privileges will be blocked until resolved.
- Circulating materials: 20 cents per day
- Reserve materials: 20 cents per hour, $1 per day
For circulating material, if the fine is paid when the book is returned, the fine will be reduced by 50 percent. For reserves and interlibrary loans the fines are not reduced.
Materials not returned after three notices are sent are considered lost. Charges will include $10 processing fee, replacement costs and any accumulated fines. The replacement cost is reimbursed if the material is returned, but the processing fee and fine will stand.
The amount of damage to an item will be assessed by library staff and a fee will be charged to your library account. The average fee for a damaged item is $25.00.
If a library item is lost, you will be held responsible for replacing the item. The minimum replacement cost for a lost item is $50.00.
Our library is associated with the Online Private Academic Library Link (OPALL). It is a group of seven libraries in western Oregon with whom we share our database. This allows for wider access of materials.
Circulating books owned by other OPALL libraries may be requested directly by students and faculty. Locate the title needed, click on the “request” icon, enter your barcode, and respond to the prompts. You will be notified when the item comes. Go to OPALL here.
By participating in the Online Computer Library Center (OCLC) network, the library has access to research materials nationwide. Students, faculty, and staff may request material by submitting an Interlibrary Loan form, or by computer printout with the student’s name and box/phone number on it. Requested photocopied items cost 5 cents per page. It typically takes one to two weeks to receive interlibrary loans.
