Financial Aid FAQ
What types of Financial Aid are available?
Loans are the only type of aid available unless you find a private scholarship through a service like Fastweb.com on a national level and GetCollegeFunds.org on a state level.
What types of loans are available?
Federal Subsidized and Unsubsidized Stafford loans, Grad PLUS loans and private bank loans (if needed).
What is the difference between Subsidized and Unsubsidized loans?
Both have no payments until six months after graduation or last date of at least half time enrollment; however, the government pays (subsidizes) the interest on the Subsidized loan while in school.
What is the current interest rate on Stafford and Grad PLUS loans?
Stafford loans have a fixed rate of 6.8%. Grad PLUS loans are fixed at 7.9%. NOTE: There is the equivalent of a 1% loan fee for Stafford loans and 1.5% for Grad PLUS loans that the government withholds from each disbursement. If you don’t make your first year’s payments on time there is a 3% fee and 5% fee respectively. The Department of Education will send you a disclosure statement with more terms and conditions.
What are the Stafford loan and Grad PLUS loan limits?
You can borrow up to $20 ,500 per school year in Stafford loans. The FAFSA will help us determine how much can be Subsidized, with a cap of $8,500. The remainder of the loan will be Unsubsidized. The Grad PLUS loan is limited to the cost of attendance budget less the Stafford loans.
Will the Stafford Loans I am still paying on go into deferment while I’m in school?
As long as you are enrolled at least half time, your loans will go into an “in school deferment” status. Our Registrar’s Office will report your enrollment and they will go into deferment automatically.
Why are there no grants or scholarships available from the government or Corban College?
Federal regulations do not allow federal grants to graduate students and we don’t award institutional aid because we have attempted to keep the cost per credit to a minimum.
How many credits are considered full time?
In graduate studies, 6 credits is considered full time and 3 is half time. To qualify for federal loans, you must be considered at least half time.
