Corban University is accepting applications for the Head Volleyball coaching position. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled, with initial screening expected to begin in mid January, 2012. Anticipated start date of employment is February 2012.

Established in 1935 as a Bible Institute, Corban University has grown into a well-respected independent Christian liberal arts University where students may choose from over 50 undergraduate and graduate majors. Located in Salem, Oregon’s capital city, Corban is 45 miles south of Portland in the middle of the Willamette Valley. Enrollment for 2011-12 at Corban is more than 1,200, with over 200 students participating in 13 intercollegiate sports.

The 13 current sports offered at Corban University are baseball, softball, volleyball, men’s/women’s soccer, men’s/women’s basketball, men’s/women’s cross country, men’s/women’s track & field, and men’s/women’s golf. The Warriors compete in the Cascade Collegiate Conference of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and Division I of the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA).

The purpose of Corban University is to educate Christians who will make a positive difference in the world for Jesus Christ (Matthew 28:19-20). Corban Athletics is an ambassador of this purpose. Student-athletes will be educated through spiritual, academic, and athletic development to accomplish that purpose. Each coach strives for the goal by placing high priority and emphasis on the growth and improvement of the total student-athlete.

Remuneration

  • As a part-time, 12-month, exempt position, salary commensurate with qualifications and experience

Minimum Qualifications

  • Have accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
  • Maintain consistent attendance in a Baptist church or a church of like faith and practice which is in agreement with Corban’s statement of faith.
  • Evidence of spiritual leadership within a Christian environment. Intentional in promoting/developing individual and team ministry experiences.
  • Combination of: earned degree from an accredited institution, professional certifications, and extensive participation and coaching experience in the sport of Volleyball.
  • Demonstrate ability to be flexible, open minded, and team oriented.
  • Demonstrate competence in recruiting, managing time, budgets, scheduling, supervision and evaluation of student-athletes, along with other administrative functions associated with coaching.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Record of excellence in program development with current college level Volleyball coaching experience.
  • Coaching, teaching and/or administrative experience in a Christian University setting.

Major Responsibilities

The Head Coach is responsible for the spiritual, educational, and athletic growth of the student-athletes participating on the team. By example and leadership, the coach will design, implement, organize, and oversee the program in all areas. The coach must be a strong, competent recruiter of student-athletes to Corban University. The coach will be responsible for all financial and operational elements necessary to promote, build, and maintain a successful program. The coach is expected to work together with, and maintain positive relationships within, the various groups of the athletic department and Corban University. The coach will be expected to work with the athletics department and University with fundraising activities leading to facility improvements. The coach reports and is accountable to the Director of Athletics and the Dean of Athletic Activities.

To be considered for this position, applicants must submit:

  • A letter of interest: addressing expertise, experience, training, education and knowledge as they relate to the requirements of the position.
  • An official Corban University staff application.
  • A resume including at least 3 current references.
  • Faith and philosophy statement as it relates the applicant’s qualifications to be a part of Corban University.

After review and screening process, the applicant may be requested to submit the following:

  • College transcripts (unofficial copies acceptable during application process) and confirmation of degree level.
  • Criminal background check.
  • First Aid and CPR card.
