Women bring home conference title, Men finish 4th

LA GRANDE, Ore. – Corban's women's cross country team brought home its first-ever conference title and finished 3rd in the region, while the men's team finished 4th in the conference and 7th in the region at the NAIA Region I Championship on Saturday.

On the women's side, freshman Carli Moller (Vancouver, Wash.) and junior Danielle Jordan (Medford, Ore.) paced the Warriors with 12th and 13th place showing respectively, as the duo was a mere 2.08 seconds apart. Freshman Bernice Soto (Cascade, Ore.) turned in a 18th place finish in a time of 19:21.05. The trio were named to all-conference team thanks to their 5th, 6th, and 7th place showing among conference runners.

As a team, the Warriors finished with 93 total team points in the region for a third place overall behind race winner Simon Fraser (20 points) and the University of British Columbia (74 points).  Among the six Cascade Collegiate Conference schools, the Warriors accumulated 34 total team points to finish 19 points ahead of nationally-ranked Eastern Oregon. Corban used finishes of 4th, 5th, 6th, 9th, and 10th en route to bringing home the conference title. Fourth-year head coach Norm Berney was named Conference Coach of the Year for the first time ever.

On the men's side, junior Chad Hunsucker (Polson, Mont.) paced Corban's runner with a 13th place finish in the region, while placing 6th among the conference runners to earn all-conference honors. Sophomores Jason Bernard (Salem, Ore.) and Ben Snell (Spray, Ore.) finished 23rd and 38th respectively in the region race, while placing 13th and 24th in the conference race.

As a team, the Warriors finished with a team total of 185 points in the region, while amassing 120 points in the conference race.

Corban’s cross country team will now have to await word on whether or not they qualify for the NAIA National Championship on Saturday, November 18th, in Louisville, Kentucky. The women's race will begin at 10:30 a.m. (EST), while the men will run at 11:30 a.m. (EST)..
