Warriors end season at NAIA Region I Championships

OLYMPIA, Wash. - Corban's men's and women's cross country teams concluded its respective seasons at the NAIA Region I Championships Saturday, as the women finished sixth and the men ended seventh overall on the campus of The Evergreen State College.

On the women's side, senior Danielle Jordan (Medford, Ore.) completed the 5K course in a time of 18:39.00 to finish eighth individually giving her a chance to qualify as an individual for the NAIA Championships in two weeks and becomes the program's first-ever All-Region honoree.

Jordan finished ahead of sophomore teammate Carli Moller (Vancouver, Wash.), who ran the race in a time of 19:20.00 and finished 20th overall and has a chance to join Jordan at this year's NAIA Championships.

Along with Jordan and Moller's finishes, the NAIA's No. 30-ranked Warriors placed three more runners in the top 50 en route to earning 146 points to finish behind defending NAIA champions Simon Fraser, British Columbia, Cascade Collegiate Conference champions Eastern Oregon, Lewis-Clark State, and The College of Idaho.

Sophomore Tera Stegner (Damascus, Ore.), senior Sara Aikin (Lebanon, Ore.), and freshman Karissa Griggs (Athena, Ore.) finished 30th, 44th, and 49th respectively in times of 19:43.00, 20:06.00, and 20:16.00.

Rounding out the team qualifiers were freshman Ali Ghavami (Keizer, Ore.) in a time of 20:24.00 (57th overall) and senior Jill Nielsen (Baker City, Ore.) in a time of 20:52.00 (67th overall).

Freshman Alyssa Powers (Goldendale, Wash.), freshman Andrea Collins (Spangle, Wash.), and freshman Bobbie Clauson (Emmett, Idaho) rounded out the Warrior squad, as the trio represented Corban as individuals.

On the men's side, junior Brian Beeson (Soldatna, Alaska) led the Warriors with a 42nd place showing individually thanks to a time of 27:06.00 on the 8K course. Right behind Besson were sophomore Jeffrey Schloemer (Mt. Vernon, Wash.) and junior Ben Snell (Spray, Ore.) with 44th and 46th place finishes respectively in times of 27:11.00 and 27:19.00.

Along with Warrior trio, junior Jason Bernard (Salem, Ore.), freshman Ben Search (Battleground, Wash.), freshman Jason Hardrath (Baker City, Ore.), and freshman Kevin Cook (Ashland, Ore.) rounded out the Warriors' scoring by finishing in the top 95 individually.

Representing Corban as individuals were freshman Beau St. Peter (Salem, Ore.), freshman Nathan Moller (Vancouver, Wash.), and sophomore Michael Baxter (Kent, Wash.).

Corban will have to wait and see if any of its runners will compete at the NAIA Championships on Saturday, November 17th, in Kenosha, Wisconsin beginning at 10:00 a.m.
